LISD Solo and Ensemble Success

On April 12th, Creek Valley hosted the LISD Band Solo and Ensemble Contest in which 1200 kids were entered.  At this contest,  students played solos and ensembles in front of a judge for a rating.  Each judge awarded students with ratings of either 1st division=Superior, 2nd division= Average, or 3rd division=Poor.  I am very happy to report that members of the Creek Valley Bands were awarded 217- 1st Division medals and 3- 2nd division medals.  Also, judges in each room awarded Outstanding Soloists in which they picked kids who stood as exceptional in the room that they judged.  Saturday, 16 Creek Valley students were awarded as Outstanding Soloists.  Great Job everyone, we are very proud of you!

Congratulations Honor Winds!

On March 26th, the Honor Winds competed in the Region 24 UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest at Wakeland HS.  This is the band version of the STAAR test.  We received perfect scores from all 6  judges.  These kids have worked really hard on music that is 2 grade levels above their requirements.   Below are some quotes from the judges critique sheets.

“Incredible! Spectacular! Brilliant! Wonderful! Inspiring!”
“It is always refreshing to hear a group of young musicians play with such amazing control over their instruments, where you can hear all the colors because the intonation and balance is so incredibly brilliant”
“It is an absolute privilege to hear fine bands play programs of this magnitude so unbelievably well!”
“Thank you so much for stressing the proper fundamentals- its what makes this collection of middle school students sound like a professional group.  This was a joy to hear!”
